1. Introduction
Mood Note ("the app", "we") is designed to be a safe, private, and secure diary application suitable for users of all ages, including families and children (Rated 3+). We prioritize your privacy and ensure that your personal memories remain under your control.
2. Data Collection & Storage
Local Storage First: Your diary entries, photos, and voice recordings are stored locally on your device by default. We do not have access to read your personal diary content.
Cloud Backup (Google Drive): You may optionally choose to backup your data to your own Google Drive. This interaction happens directly between your device and Google's servers. We do not store your data on our own servers.
3. Permissions & Feature Usage
To provide a rich journaling experience, the app requests the following permissions:
- Camera & Photos (READ/WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Used to attach photos to your diary entries. These files remain on your device or your private Google Drive.
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): Used solely to record voice notes for your diary. The app does not listen when you are not recording. Audio files are stored locally.
- Google Sign-In: Used only to authenticate you with Google Drive for backup purposes. We collect your email address solely to display your profile information within the app settings.
- Notifications: Used to send local daily reminders to write in your journal.
4. Third-Party Services & Analytics
We use trusted third-party services to improve app stability and security. These services collect non-personally identifiable information:
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (Google): Collects anonymous data (e.g., crash logs, screen views, app open counts) to help us fix bugs and improve performance.
- Firebase Realtime Database: Stores a unique, anonymous "Installation ID" to verify valid app installations and secure the app against piracy.
5. Advertising (Family Friendly)
The app allows users to use the free version supported by ads via Google AdMob.
- We have configured our ad settings to be Family Friendly.
- We do not serve personalized (behavioral) ads to children or users in general.
- Ad content is filtered to be appropriate for general audiences (G-rated).
6. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & GDPR Compliance)
Because this app is rated for everyone (3+):
- We do not knowingly collect personal information (PII) such as phone numbers, home addresses, or real names from children.
- We employ "neutral age screening" where necessary or treat all users as age-sensitive by disabling personalized tracking.
- If you are a parent and believe your child has shared personal data with us unintentionally, please contact us to have it removed immediately.
7. Data Security
All data transmission (such as syncing with Google Drive or Analytics) occurs over secure HTTPS connections. However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage users to keep their devices locked and secure.

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our app or legal requirements. Continued use of the app implies acceptance of the updated policy.
